Dynasty Warriors Online, published by Aeria Games, brings the Dynasty Warriors storyline to the MMORPG world. This game plays just like a Dynasty Warriors series game as you create your character, choose from over 20 different weapons, and go into combat in the familiar hack and slash of the series. You can choose one of three leaders to follow, taken from the Three Kingdoms Era the game takes place in. You will also choose a General from your kingdom to follow as well.
Quests are basically still the same as the regular combat. You can solo or group quests as you fulfill a certain goal on the map. Maps have armies of players you need to fight to take control of bases, defeat enemy commanders, and fulfill your goals. There can also be PvP against players on these maps where they will be fighting against you to complete their opposing objective.
In this age of MMORPGs, the graphics of DWO is only average. There isn’t much detail on the characters or environment, but there are thousands of allies and enemies on each army. You will be fighting similar models all the time and even though the maps change, the bases are similar as well.
Controls also are hard to manage on a keyboard as the game engine has really been built for consoles. It will take a while to get used to the controls, or if you have a PC controller, DWO supports that as well.
Dynasty Warriors Online provides Dynasty Warriors enthusiasts their own MMORPG and it is a decently made game. It can be repetitive but the fun of the game is being able to fight massive armies and decimate them. It may not be up to par in terms of depth of gameplay as other MMORPGs but the hack and slash action may be worth playing.
