Aion is an online game that focuses on heavy Player vs Player combat. However, a lot of questing and grinding is required before any player reaches the more elaborate PvP environments in the game. Newcomers are limited to beginner zones where game play consists of never ending questing, grinding and rudimentary PvP combat.

Before players could enjoy the more advance features of the game, a level 25 barrier must be breached. Leveling up could be a difficult task as hours of continuous grinding and questing is required before a new level is reached.
The long grind and difficulty in farming experience points is the major drawback of the game. Questing could be a big help in earning precious experience points but most are just tasks which involve killing certain types of monsters.
Serious gamers could easily reach level 40 in a few weeks but for many of us who could only spend a few hours of gaming a day reaching the higher levels could be a quest on its own. Reaching the higher levels is important as the more interesting parts of the game could only be opened starting at level 25.
Aion starts to blossom when you reach level 25 as players gain access to the Abyss. This is where the fun starts and the games heavy PvP focus is displayed. This could be frustrating especially for newcomers as they could easily get capped by the higher level characters because of the level modifiers installed in the combat system.
Game play gets even more interesting as Aion throws in a 3rd race the Balaur which is AI controlled. This race appears in airships which come to raid both teams striking another dimension in fort battles. The Balaur’s appearance could serves as a wild card which could shift the tide of battle to either side.
Aion also implements an open world battle which serves to keep things interesting as players don’t only have to look for aggressive monsters but opposing players as well. Basic character selection is limited to entirely different looking races the Elyos and Asmodians. Their difference remains to be skin deep as both races start with identical stats.
With the game featuring an open world battle, other additions to make combat more challenging are the different bonuses which help certain players reach their combat potential.
The world of Aion may not be as massive as other MMORPGs but each environment is beautifully designed and a good mix of maps makes it a fully developed world. Design leans more toward the Asian RPG genres and character are wonderfully rendered.
With the game focusing heavily towards the PvP experience, players might wonder is the open-world battle is a good idea. This might make new players shun away from PvP combats and opt to grind it out on the map rather risk themselves in lopsided battles.
