Sorcery Quest Review
This is my 15 min review of Sorcery Quest a free browser RPG. Please note that the 15 minutes means the review started from the second of logging in until exactly 15 minutes later. This includes lag and being disconnected.
Onto the review! I’ve never heard of Sorcery Quest or Edgebee Studios(maker of Sorcery Quest)before this review and was really surprised by the quality of the game. Now seeing how this is a browser game we’ll start with the website, note this didn’t count towards the 15 minutes. When I first reached Edge Arcade, home of Sorcery Quest my first impression was I’m I on the right site? The website is really simple and while the simplicity is nice it makes the website bland and for lack of a better word boring. It’s just doesn’t feel right and defiantly doesn’t do the game any justice.
Now onto the game! First things first Guest Accounts! I love this idea and in my opinion all browser games should have them. Guest accounts allow you to log in and play the game without registering, if you then decide you like the game you can convert the guest account into a normal one for free without losing any of your progress, amazing right? When you first log in your greeted with a pleasant melody and then probably the worst thing about the game a vary annoying “typing” sound whenever text is put on the screen. This sound continues throughout the game or at least as far as I got. Now back to that pleasant melody, I’ve got to say the music in this game is vary well done and seems to always fit the mood of the game.
After the opening scene your greeted by a vary well done wooded sensory and an old man who begins explaining how the game works. The interface at first seems kinda clunky and not vary well done but after a few mins of learning what everything is it seems a lot better. After the old man is done giving his opening speech(don’t worry it’s not to long)your greeted with an excellent character creation screen that accomplishes a lot of games cannot, a simple interface that still provides a lot of depth and customization for your character but could still use some more options.
The backgrounds in this game are beautiful but animations could use some work. For instance an attack with a sword looks almost exactly like an attack with a bow and arrow(a slash across the enemy). I didn’t get a chance to try mages so magic might provide that verity most people will be looking for. I did notice a few graphical issues where images would pop in 5-10 seconds sometimes longer after the level has loaded, now this isn’t a vary bad thing as it only happened on small things that don’t have any real effect on the game. I also found the game to be clunky at points, like at the end of fights sometimes it can take an extra couple seconds to load, it’s not necessarily bad but it can get annoying and take you out of the experience.
Overall the 15 minutes I spent in this game was a great experience and despite a few issues here and there I’d recommend this game to anyone. It vary well done and easy for anyone to understand. If your looking for a free RPG that you don’t have to download you can’t go wrong starting with Sorcery Quest.
First Impression Decision: Would play more.
