The Best Things in Life are Free
Dungeons and Dragons have been around for almost, forever. In fact, the franchise was responsible for introducing a lot of players into the world of RPG’s. The game title has spawned a lot of niches in the gaming industry. From the first side scrolling games to the numerous comic books that were released, it seems that the world of Dungeons and Dragons had no boundaries.
Born from simple board games when personal computers were virtually non-existent, the games storyline served as a basis for a lot of today’s MMORPGs. The game was originally released as a fee based MMORPG requiring players to shell out a monthly payment; it has since been re-released as a free MMORPG.

Background
D&D online is set in the realm of Eberron. Players familiar with the D&D landscape would notice the addition of new technologies such as mechanical contraptions which normally would not be found in D&D’s typical medieval settings. The land is also dotted with signs of industry like factories which provides a good mix and feel for the game. But unlike modern contraptions fueled by fossil fuel, these are powered by magic.
Character Creation
The level of character customization is definitely one of the best in the MMORPG market today. The possibilities of creating builds was truly exceptional, there was a lot of flexibility in terms of character build for even the most seasoned RPG player. It also offers a quick build option for novices who just want to start their own adventure.
Fans and followers would be glad that the game remains true to the original D&D storyline, with characters straight out of the Dungeons and Dragons universe. There are three classes available, Spell, Melee and Specialist class. There are eleven archetypes, the monk and favored soul class however is only available thru purchase. All in all there are 6 races available in the game. Two of the Races, the Drow Elf and Warforged, highly specialized races are available thru credits.
There are three paths available for every class, but the game also allows a great deal of customization in terms of abilities and skill building. This is where D&D truly holds its own against other MMORPGs. Players are no longer confined to pseudo type characters, long range skills could be combined with melee abilities to give players the feeling of having a multi class character.
Beginning the adventure
Starting out the game find themselves marooned on Korthos Island. This is where noobs get their game legs and learn basic gameplay with the help of NPC guides. Another cool feature in this game is it gives you a detailed introduction to gameplay by providing a dungeon scenario that allows players to get a feel for the game.
Seasoned players and newbie would find themselves in a virtual tour of a typical dungeon, where they are introduced to the world of D&D. Gameplay remains true to D&D fashion with dungeons offering treasures, traps and secret doors that open to passages and more treasures.
The game also provides players a more challenging and different gaming experience. Players and spell casters would find that health points are not automatically regenerated but requires them to look for special areas to restore hit points and spell casting abilities.
Combat
Players who are familiar with the old D&D tabletop games would see numerous similarities in terms of gameplay. Like their predecessors, chance plays a great role in combat. The games engine randomly generates damage done by each weapon. It certainly brings a new mix into gameplay away from the traditional hack and slash combat we see in a lot of MMORPGs today.
