Featured Game: Vindictus, an Action MMO

Vindictus

Vindictus is an action MMO published by Nexon that debuted in 2010. You can see the differences in Vindictus right away from the screenshots. Vindictus has stunning graphics, and the look of Vindictus is a very dark realistic world. Players look very human and though the monsters are fantasy, they have a very animalistic and real feel to them as well. The motion in the game is silky smooth and character and enemy animations look real. Objects in Vindictus are also very important as the player can destroy them or use them as weapons for massive damage.

As you start your first character, you’ll only have three options for character classes: a dual sword male, a sword and shield female, and a magic staff female. These classes are gender locked, and the options are limited in character customization. While this is a weakness of Vindictus, there will be more classes added as can been seen in the grayed out class options. The details put in the characters are high quality and you can make your character look different than the others.

Vindictus’ gameplay and controls are more action oriented than a traditional MMORPG. Left mouse clicks are normal attacks and the right mouse is a more powerful knockback attack. You can combo this and where your character is facing will direct how you attack. You can also destroy objects as most of the objects in game are movable and destroyable. There are also more powerful skills to learn and use that use mana and have cooldowns. Timing these spells can be important in later levels.

Quests in Vindictus are completed in instanced zones. You will be given quests to pick up certain items from the denizens of the instances, kill mobs, or just to finish the instance. You can also complete certain special requirements to gain more experience, like completing missions solo or within a certain time frame. You will most likely be doing instances multiple times to pick up certain items or get more points needed to progress but most of the instances are quick and can be completed in 15 minutes or less.

There are still some aspects that Vindictus does need work on. Vindictus PvP is currently limited though Nexon is planning to add more PvP missions like a capture the flag type of mission. Vindictus does use a cash shop system but currently the items aren’t game breaking but for convenience and looks. Gameplay can be repetitive at times as you may have to play an instance a few times before you are able to move on to the next one. The crafting system is a little complicated and materials can be hard to find at times. Overall though, the gameplay, the dark realistic graphics, and the style of the game will appeal to many gamers. Check it out here.
