Flyff: Flying Just Became More Fun

Fly for Fun is another eye-popping MMORPG title from Korea that promises RPG fans countless hours of fun on their desktop. Flyff is one of the most popular MMORPG in the US today with thousands of players online at anytime. Like all typical RPGs, players start as beginners and gradually progress by finishing quests and gathering experience points.

Characters

Character creation is one of Flyff’s weak points. Personalizing character looks only gives player four choices; hair style, hair color, gender and face. Characters are cartoony like and which gives the games overall kiddy look. There little way of distinguishing players during the first job levels. Going thru the game however allows you further customization by purchasing these upgrades from merchants.

There is no job to choose at the game’s onset, all players are considered vagrants till they reach level 15. Upon reaching level 15, players may now choose from 4 different job sets; Magician, Assist, Acrobat and Mercenary.

Assist – These characters may be compared to priests. They provide support and assist players by buffs and also have considerable area of effect spells. Job specialization has characters evolving into Bill Poster, this is a hybrid class which possess powerful damage effects or Ringmasters who specialize in buffs.

Mercenary – Warriors of the Flyff Realm, this are the games melee class. Players can evolve into two types of warriors; the Mercenary who uses a shield and sword and specializes in defensive skills, or the Blade who can wield weapons in each hand and the more offensive type of player.

Acrobat – Built for long range attacks Acrobats are the archers of the Flyff world. Second jobs for the class are Jesters who are equipped with yo-yos or bow wielding Ranger.

Magician - Spell casters of the Flyff realm, magicians are the world’s elemental destroyers.  Built with low health and constitution, magicians are defensively weak but deal the heaviest damage. Magicians can evolve into Psykeepers or Elementalists.

Gameplay

The adventure begins in the city of Flarine, right smack in the city’s center. A great number of trainers and NPCs could be found which helps you start your adventure. A Welcome officer provides help to the realm’s new citizens, a buff is given by the NPC and a penguin serves as your companion as you travel thru Roika. This little creature can be accessed at the lower right portion of your screen. The penguin also gives some useful hints which the Welcome Officer forgot to provide.

Starting off the game could be confusing as the numerous NPC provide little help on your adventure. One quirk with the game is that no quests are given until you reach level 7, a quick tour of the city’s outskirts and some quick work with your weapons should leave your character ready for the first batch of quests.

A troop of flying eyeballs welcome you on the city’s outskirts. These are easy kills and supplies you those much needed experience points until you reach level 4. Upon reaching this level it is advised that you start heading and killing the bigger monsters till you reach level 7. You can now go back to the city and consult the NPCs to get your first batch of quests and make your game a bit more interesting.

Points are awarded everytime a player reaches a higher level. These points are then distributed to different player stats; strength, stamina, dexterity and intelligence. Along with stat points, skill points are also gained with every level gained. This are distributed to skill which branch out to more complex and powerful ones. A status bar conveniently displays your player’s mana and health. Vagrants however are only awarded melee skills till they reach their job of choice.

Overall, the game has a nice and easy feeling to it. It has loads of quests that could keep you busy when the grinding becomes too monotonous. Gameplay is easy and players could easily get the knack of the games interface. Best of all the game is free and finding some company is easy with the thousands of players that are online at any given time.
