Entropia is a game that in many ways, is a breakthrough. With some of the most unique challenges and a real-life commitment, you will find yourself pouring yourself into the game, once you get used to it.
If you’re not familiar with this game at all, or this concept it will come to you as a bit of a shock: Money makes life easier. Entropia Universe (EU) has one of the most advanced and different economies of any game. First you deposit your real money into the game and exchange it with the fixed set exchange rate of 1 USD to 10 PED. So say, you are rich and want to be rich in the game, bingo deposit a few thousand dollars and you became everyone’s friend in the game. This is not entirely bad I believe, because you can somehow, make money from the game, but apparently I did not have the skills to do this. Besides this crazy economy, the game is only sub-par at best. The gameplay is repetitive in all aspects, but does differ from your typical ‘hack and slash’ content found with nearly all action MMORPGs. You get absolutely no sense of true combat in the game, what bothered me most was with rifle style guns, no scopes. No ‘aiming’ view either. But there is a huge variety of things to do besides hunt, and once you realize your going to have more fun mining than hunting you may be able to enjoy the game. The other ‘careers’ in the game are much more promising and give you more value, but if your going to shoot a weapon, find a different game.
The graphics are not nearly as refined as other games in the genre, while MMORPGs like to run on a variety of PCs they usually have lower than normal quality graphics. But not only have low graphics does not hurt EU, the lack of ability of any modern graphics options hurts more. It is in need to be brought into present day in this department.
The community is different, when you are talking about real money, it changes everything, period. It will tend to be more adults playing the game, more people that are driven to get things done. You will see far less ‘free giveaways’ from other players and much less billion dollar items within the game.
The audio of the game is quiet blah and does not do the rest of it justice. It has a variety of noises for animals but the music gets repetitive and is the music that you get stuck in your head all day, not in the good way either.
If you play this game, get ready to spend some money, unless you want to play a lot longer for very little gain when starting out, you don’t need a whole lot to get going but you need to have wise money management to have any of it work in game. I must also note you can get your real money back into your account if it doesn’t work out for you. But if you are wise with your money, I would suggest staying away from this one.
