Secret of the Solstice Review by Barbara Bernardo
Secret of the Solstice may give an unimpressive feel to hardcore gamers by just breezing thru video previews and a couple of screenshots. I suggest that before judging the game quickly and a bit unfairly, it is better to try it out first. I strongly think there is enough share of enjoyment when you actually play this game and you might even find yourself addicted to it!
Background of the Game
There is not much of a difference for SoS as compared to other MMOs. Battling monsters here and there, forming allies and saving the world – these are just what you’ll get to expect again. It can be boring but if you love questing, this is definitely for you.
Graphics
The characters in SoS is “anime-esque” and you’ll automatically think of more popular games belonging in the same class such as Ragnarok. However, this game is not a tough contender for the top spot with regards to graphics simply because the general look is more from the Super Nintendo era. One thing to note is that the monsters in this game is unique. I don’t mean to say that I favor it or not. It’s just that the mentioned uniqueness does not even add to the graphic appeal. You’ll definitely have a hard time determining what is the actually specie of the monster.
Gameplay
The gameplay in SoS is unpredictable and shall I say very exciting. I mention this because winning is not only dictated by how strong your character is. Your victory relies on several factors such as receiving powerful items and participating in special events.
In the World of SoS there is no such thing as a stronger class. As I want to put it, no man is an island in which existence is based on each others’ capabilities. A fighter class may defend himself to level up but if he gets injured he will be needing the help of a healer. Co-existence is a key element in this world.
A quick mental note to yourself if you want to level up pretty fast: partying will do the trick.
Events
The moderators of the game are generous by means of rewarding the players thru hosted events. There are also instances when players get to host their own events. This is a good breather after victories of questing.
Overall
I give SoS a score of 8/10. The lack of 2 points would account for better graphics. I guess when you have a wonderful gameplay, an equally wonderful graphics would be suitable as well. But just the same, I would say this game is time-worthy for me.
