Having the right mix of skills is not the only thing that can give you an advantage in Runes of Magic. Like all MMORPG’s; weapons, armors and items can be vital when facing an opponent with a similar build. Runes play an important role in Runes of Magic. High level items in the game contain slots which can accommodate runes to give you that extra boost.

Choosing the right rune for your item largely depends on what type of build your character has. Equipping your character with one is easy by inserting your rune in the appropriate slot for the item located in your inventory.

Runes

Upgrading runes require 5 runes of the same level. These are then combined with the use of the Arcane Transmutor. A window displays the improved version of the rune. Creating a new rune can be done by combining two or more different runes in the Arcane Transmutor. If there are no possible existing combinations for the different runes no information is displayed in the preview window.

Mana Stones

In order to improve your equipment, you need to get equipment with attributes you’d like to transfer to other equipments. The source equipment is then combined with a power stone too produce a mana stone. The mana stone is then combined with the new equipment to imbue the attributes of the original equipment.

To create a mana stone, place the equipment and a power stone into the Arcane Transmutor. To create the mana stone simply click “confirm.” A preview window displays the final attributes of the newly created mana stone.

Imbuing your equipment with the use of mana stones is done by placing three similar level mana stones and the equipment into the Arcane Transmutor. There is a limit for transferring attributes to the new equipment. When more than the allowable attributes are transferred the weaker attributes are transferred first.

You can also buy power stones from NPCs or item shops. A lot of these power stones have basic attributes but power stones from NPCs give you a random attribute on top of the pre existing attribute.

Arcane Transmutor

This is a special tool for improving equipments. It can increase the level of runes or create an entirely new one by combining several runes. The Arcane Transmutor can be accessed by clicking the treasure icon at the bottom of your backpack. This option does not come standard for every character and could only be acquired by completing a quest in the class hall in Varanas. However, only level 10 characters and above are given access to the quest.

Using the Arcane Transmutor isn’t free. Each uses one Arcane Transmutor charge. This can purchased from the item shop or exchanging Phirius tokens at the Phirius token exchange in class halls.

Repairing Equipment

The possibility of your items breaking is real as constant use of your weapons for example exacts a toll and eventually wears out. The game has a feature which informs you of how badly damaged and which ones need immediate attention. Repairing an item can be done by going to a merchant shop and looking for the option for repairing items. Each repair charges an appropriate fee but this could prove cheap and save you the problem of a broken item.
