Growing Pains

Minimum Specs, Minimum Gaming Experience

Fact, your PC is growing faster than you are. So you’ve finally reach your second job after months sitting down in front of the PC. You check your stats and see your agility points are nearly maxed out, but one thing escapes you. Your character’s movements haven’t improved since you were a noob out on his first walk.

A quick check on your internet connection says that your FIOS connection is top of the line and churns out a decent amount of data juice. You’ve never encountered this sort of problem before with previous games in the past, not until you’ve installed the latest MMORPG offering. It’s been three years since you’ve purchased your PC and it seems like your PC has reached the end of the road. A careful assessment on the latest gaming PCs on the market show that they are still a few months down the road with your budget. But before you throw your beloved gaming console out, let’s try to see how a simple tune-up could extend a few more months or years out of that aging PC.

A review on a technical review site reveals a whole lot of goodies promising an instant cure for your PC promising warp speeds. You’ve been itching to buy these items to give your PC that added kick in the behind to speed up your leveling experience. Maybe a quick upgrade with the latest quad core processors or the latest video cards could be the answer to your problems. Although computer upgrades may seem to be a simple one, breathing new life into your aging PC could be a little bit tricky.

AGE

One of the first things to consider is your computers age. Developments in computer hardware’s are so fast that today’s cutting edge technology maybe obsolete only after a couple of years. One problem that plagues old computer owners is the availability of some parts. Scrapping for these parts may present some degree of difficulty and buying a new one straight from the shelf is a bit tricky. Parts maybe sourced from swapping and exchanging with friends or over the internet. If your computer is just too old, purchasing a new one maybe a better deal than upgrading an old computer.

Operating Systems

Upgrading your computers operating system might prove to be a double edged sword. Changing you’re the latest OS may provide you with the newest drivers for your software but could also drain precious resources from your gaming experience. Some games require newer OS to take advantage of faster graphics and processes. Of all the upgrade options, switching to a newer operating system could be the fastest if not the simplest move you can make.

Memory

Adding some memory or upgrading your memory to those with faster clock speeds could produce dramatic results for game speeds. Adding an additional gig of memory could make for smoother graphics and faster transition in movements. Those under a budget could choose this path in upgrading their computers.

Video Cards

Video cards take a major brunt of punishment from computer games. In fact, some games require a minimum specification in order for the games to play properly. Like your computer video cards have built in memory and the higher the amount of memory available, the smoother the gaming experience. Next to adding RAM on your computer this is the simplest and cheapest option for speeding up your computer.

Processors

Changing processors could add a few more years to your computers life. Depending on what year you purchased your PC, switching processors could be a cinch or a difficult route to take. This would also depend on your motherboard’s specs as some may not be able to accommodate a newer processor.

Motherboards

Coupling a high end processor with an ordinary motherboard sometimes defeats the purpose of getting a fast processor in the first place. More capable motherboards offer more slots and faster clock speeds. Some motherboards also offer the option of having a video card on board. This will definitely save you from purchasing a video card but slows down computer speeds. This is because the built-in devices use computer memory.
