Free MMORPGs nowadays make a good outlet for making new friends. Because of the fast exchange of information, it isn’t a surprise that most people find new BFFs (best friend forever) over these games. Some even go as far as finding love in these games. But why exactly do these free MMORPGs affect people’s relationships with one another? How is it able to create and foster new friendships from people halfway across the world? And how sure are you that those people are real and not mere pretenders?

On Making Friendships
Online games make it a haven to meet new people and create new friendships. Your guild, faction or team, most of the time, is the one where you always spend your time with when you are online. Chats are normal inside the game, with the constant PMs from those people who truly know you.

Perhaps the most notable features of these games are because you get to meet people outside your own real world. You can meet people from another part of your country, your continent, or from another part of the world. You get to experience a new culture through making friends inside the game.

These people who spend time with you in the Internet are also the ones you eventually trust. Chats in-game would then be moved out of the game and into your own personal social networks, instant messengers and emails. They become your friends in the game and out of the game, and you both learn to trust each other, as well as enjoy each other’s company.

If geography permits, you might even organize gatherings, or ‘eyeballs’ with your guild or team. You bond with each other, eat together, and joke together. The team that you once knew inside that game becomes the team you have in real life.

On Moving On to Love Relationships
You might have heard it both in the game and out of the game. Some players fall in love (and possibly even out of love) while they play the game. They start off as friends, and then they constantly talk in the game. When that isn’t enough, they move on outside the game. They exchange mobile numbers, meet up, and before you know it, they are a couple.
While other people might find it funny, there are even some who say that they’ve ‘fallen in love’ without even meeting him or her personally. Perhaps it’s the illusion of being in another world, or perhaps the excitement of being anonymous.

On the other hand, there are quite a handful of girl gamers who are not really girls. Because girl gamers tend to be respected more in the gaming world, there are lots of guys who pose as girls in the game in hopes of being able to bag that nice guy gamer and would give them useful items in-game. While it may sound weird, these things actually happen every once in a while.

A piece of advice for fellow gamers: always be aware even in the online world. Sure, there are lots of great people who would be great friends, but do not let yourself be fooled. If you want to enter a relationship, then always consider meeting up with your guild or faction. It doesn’t hurt to be extra cautious, as well. Just play the game, make new friends, and be happy with the relationships that you’d be building.
