How many types of MMOs can there be? I get MMORPG, MMOFPS, and even MMORTS. Those are the three key genres in PC games. I am talking about RPG, RTS, and FPS of course. However, it should stop after that. Now it seems like any new free massively multiplayer game wants to breakout a new acronym. New acronym or not, there will not be a new list on FreeMMORPGs.com with one lone game. To avoid confusion, those games will be lumped in with games of a similar genre like MMOTPS games in MMOFPS. I am not even talking about MMOACT, MMOShMUP, MMOSG and MMOSPT. Half of these don’t even make sense!

What about something simple like MMO Shooter? Is it really that different that it needs its own acronym to appear special? If the game is good and free, people may not care what it is called but that doesn’t prevent confusion. Oh well, see you in the alphabet.
