Playing Free MMORPGs on Laptops

Let’s face it – not all who love playing free MMORPGs do not own or prefer the bulk of desktop computers. There are a handful of those gamers who still play using their own laptop computers. While most laptops are not exactly designed for gaming, there are a handful models which are either customizable or readily built for gaming purposes.
However, while most free MMORPGs do not demand high-end setups, there are a handful of others which require more demanding system requirements. Even games such as Perfect World or Granado Espada do not require too much. On the other hand, buying a laptop for gaming also means that you are future-proofing. You aren’t buying just because of games available now, but for games which are soon to be available, as well, and would surely require higher system requirements.
When buying a laptop for gaming, here are some things that you should keep in your mind.

•    System Memory – Applications nowadays, even your trusted operating system, eat up your memory, so always trust your instincts that the higher memory you get, the better your gaming laptop would be. Most free MMORPGs nowadays require 1GB of RAM, but it is common to have 2GB in new laptops, 4GBs in some media laptops, and even 8GB in high-end gaming laptops. Expect future games to require higher memory requirements as graphics become more intense.

•    Video or Graphics Memory – This is basically what makes a gaming laptop built for games. The common rule, like system memory, is that the higher your graphics memory is, the better it would be for games. It might be true for some, but it isn’t always true. Most laptops have integrated or shared graphics. This means that they share memory with your RAM. So if you have a 256MB shared graphics memory and a 2GB RAM, you might want to stay away from eye-candy (read: good graphics) free MMORPGs.
On the safer side, it would be better for you to choose laptops with dedicated or hybrid graphics memory. This means that your laptop has a separate memory for the graphics, and it doesn’t share with your RAM. Some high-end laptops even let you put in two graphic cards (a separate one for physics and graphics) but it all depends on you. Check on the card’s benchmark score, as well. Newer laptops with ATI or nVidia 256MB to 512MB video cards could be your best bet.

•    Processor – Who doesn’t want to have the fastest possible processor on earth built in his laptop? You might have heard about quad-cores and dual-cores with high GHz but what would be the best one for your gaming laptop? Like the others, the higher one is always the better one.  More cores mean more processors working, so dual cores have 2 while quads have 4 processors working simultaneously. Most laptops now have dual core processors from AMD or Intel with 2.0GHz, but you could always choose to get the ones with quad cores of Intel i7 or AMD Phenom II.

•    Screen Size – Most people buy laptops because they are small, but if you love gaming on big screens then consider getting a laptop no smaller than 15 inches. There are others with 15.4”, 16”, 17” or even up to 18”. It just all depends on your own preferences and of course, your budget.
