Taborea, this is where it all begins in the world of Runes of Magic. The adventure begins when you are tasked by the Kolydian Royalty to explore the world of Candara. There are six available character classes – the knight, priest, warrior, rogue, scout and mage. Choosing any of them gives you your own unique mix of specialties and abilities.
Your travels start in an outpost called the Pioneer’s Colony. This is where you are educated on the different aspects of the game control and exploration. You are also put through a quick introduction and walkthrough at the start of the game.

A good mix of NPCs teaches you the basics of crafting abilities which are indispensable in gameplay. You are presented a short list of task to complete by the NPCs before finally being sent out north of the town to a place called Logar.
After reaching Logar, you will be given your own house after completing a task. You could personalize your living place by purchasing furniture or awarded one when you get promoted. Killing monsters may also give you the opportunity of getting one through their drops but this are far and few in between. The best thing of owning a house is that it comes with your own personal helper.
Explore a little bit further north and the city of Varanas welcomes you. Nestled at the tip of Silverspring Plains, the city boasts of numerous shops and NPCs which could supply you with loads of information. If you’re one who doesn’t like walking from one point in the map to another, teleport NPCs are available for moving you seamlessly in the city.
The city of Varanas does not only offer the widest choices of equipment for your adventure but also offers the ability to build your own Guild or get you ahead by providing you the ability to get your secondary class. Getting your own Guild Castle gives you a safehouse for storing your loot and plan strategies with your guild members.
Those searching for the next step in character creation, NPCs located deep inside the lower levels of Varanas allow you to transform your character. There are several NPCs representing a specific character class.
Along with the second job come skills and abilities which could be helpful in getting that special edge needed for completing the game. Getting the second job also allows you to achieve you own identity that sets your attitude and mindset in the game.
Having each player have his own character class allows for stronger skill combinations in parties. This allows you combine the skills of your knight with the healing abilities of a priest. Party combinations allow for better attacks by combining the strengths of different character classes.
Quick Tips:
Don’t be in a rush. Take your time in character building; it is better to waste some time leveling up than wasting hours killing monsters which only ends in you getting killed or countless hours of recovery. Farming could help you eke out some experience points while at the same time providing you some loot at the same time.
Be wary of some aggressive monsters, a quick look at their names color can give you an idea on what sort of monster they might turn out to be. Go for green and yellow named monsters if you feel you’re at the early stages of character building. Red monsters may prove to be more trouble than their worth and being ambushed by a couple could prove to be more than a handful for even the more advance character builds.
If you’re a part of the team, play by the rules. Experience points are equally distributed among members. Knights are great tankers, if you find yourself paired with a priest or mage, take the punishment and let your party members do the damage.
