Get a little dose of history and revisit the past with Silk Road Online. While many do not care about the features and main information located in the web site, it was surprising to know that the game was based on a popular PC game called the “Age of Romans”. Trading plays an important part in the game as nations from the Far East compete for the sake of glory and wealth.

The game is actually based from history with three nations competing on this road: the Muslims, Chinese, and the Romans. However, the Chinese were the only playable race in the game. Created by Joymax, SilkRoad Online is not what you may consider a new Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.
In terms of character creation, there is not much to be customized like all other Korean MMORPGs. But the characters in this game are introduced with a short story, a nice touch. You may not be able to customize your character at the game’s start but it gives you the choice of weapon to wield.
Choosing the choice of weapon determines what type of character you’ll eventually end with. Your character could be the master into one of the following weapons: Swords, Blades, Glaives, Bows, and Spears. Aside from the weapons, there is the Force that needs to be mastered. At the start, the Force only involves imbuing weapons with elements. The true effects will only be seen once the Force is really mastered. However, certain game restrictions make it difficult if not impossible to master all the weapons.
For the general look of the game, overall graphics is good, high quality. The characters were just nice. The environment where the characters revolve was also decent enough to picture the Chinese setting. But it can get really slow on your computer once you enter towns because it becomes too crowded with people. The sound effect was also pleasant but it wasn’t really that much making the game boring at certain points.
If you are not used to the point and click, you might want to get used to it when you want to play this game. Also, you will notice two bars: one is for regular experience while the other one is for the skills. The experience rate is somewhat low. Character level is increased based on regular experience. Skills are increased when skill experience bar is full. Skill masteries are unlocked as well as force. Skill experience also increases faster than regular experience.
You have the option to become a Hunter, Thief, or a Trader. If you opt to become a hunter, you must protect the traders from the thieves. If you become a trader, you will be travelling into other towns for money. The thieves gain money by killing hunters and traders. Looking for variations as the game progresses is a disappointment as these roles will get boring later on. There are no special quests, no special jobs, or no special places to explore.
In general, if you are looking for a new MMORPG, you may try this game. At the start, it can be very amusing. However, the repetitive roles make it boring. It is a Grind-based game play that looks pretty much the same like other MMORPGs.
