One of the few games which certainly come close to Blizzard’s popular MMORPG pay for play title is Warhammer Online. Aside from its stunning graphics and excellent gameplay, it has its own unique features that make it stand out on its own.
One of the first things I noticed when playing Warhammer Online is the level of the monster’s aggressiveness. Monsters here are more subtle compared to the blood thirsty ones that could be found at WOW.
Leveling up also requires a combination of quests and massive pvp matches. Experience points are not the only things that players get rewarded with every kill, corresponding Renown points are also earned and is conveniently displayed in a status bar on the screen.
Another nice feature in Warhammer Online is how the game levels up the playing field during Player versus Player battles by buffing lower level characters. There is a limit to this though. Level 6 characters cannot be buffed to match their level 20 opponents. What the game offers are different PvP scenarios that limit participants to a certain level.
Players can join the battle by simply clicking on any scenario while playing the game. This can be accessed thru a scenario icon. Players are whisked off to the game where they usually last for 15 minutes. Common scenarios include capture the flag or keep battles where one side defends and the other attacks to capture the keep.
You could either join a scenario solo or tag along your group for a highly intense player versus player battle. Once you accept the invitation you are instantly teleported to the location. The winning team is the first who scores 500 points and players are sent back to the game. However, experience and Renown points accumulated in the scenario is carried into the game.
Even with all the buffs and hard thought plans of balancing both sides these battles are sometimes heavily favored for teams. Joining solo with a bunch of unknowns can be the fastest way of getting capped in the game. There are no penalties for losing the scenario. All the experience and Renown points are carried by the players when they exit the game
One important note, be sure to keep your character in a safe location before joining the scenario. Joining scenarios is not a good option of escaping aggressive mobs, immediately after exiting the game you are transported to the same location.
