World of Tanks
World of Tanks by Wargaming.net is a team-based massively multiplayer online game dedicated to armored warfare in the mid-20th century and went into open beta on Jan 27th, 2011. World of Tanks will eventually have over 100 different tanks from multiple countries including prototype tanks that haven’t been fully completed in the real world yet. This games has aspects of many different MMO genres as players will be able to level up their skills like an RPG, play authentic tanks like a simulation, fight with other tanks like an action game, shoot like a fps, and devise a battle plan with your team like a strategy game. Players will start off in training missions to gain experience with the controls and tanks. The main part of the game is team play with tanks as players will either have teams chosen randomly or have set teams as they battle each other in combat. Typical battles will last between 5 to 15 minutes.
There are multiple different types of tanks such as light, medium, and heavy tanks. There are also tank destroyers and self propelled howitzers. Lighter tanks will have faster movement and can scout areas to detect enemy movements while heavier tanks will have more firepower. Tank destroyers have massive damage but are really slow and vulnerable from the sides or behind. Self propelled howitzers have long range and big damage but are very susceptible to short range attacks. Teams will need to have a balance of these tanks and work effectively such as the light tanks picking out targets for self propelled howitzers to hit from long range.
Players will start at the lightest and cheapest tank, and will need to follow one of three tank trees to gain access to bigger and better tanks using the United States, Soviet Union, and Germany as the main tank trees. There are also tank crews where the different people you add to the tank crew will have certain skills for your tank. Players will also be able to own and upgrade multiple tanks that they can place in hangers and use depending on the team and map. Players will be able to also buy and sell their tanks on an auction.
World of Tanks has a clan system where up to 100 players will be able to join. There will be ranking battles and clan tournaments for the clans as well as provinces for the clans to obtain and battle over. Once per day, clan masters can declare an attack on a province and battle for it. Clans will get credit from provinces and some provinces will give gold currency as well. Clans can also build factories to produce parts and ammo for their tanks.
